Information from the meeting of the Payment System Council, held on 23 March 2005.

The Payment System Council, an advisory - consultative body for the Management Board of the National Bank of Poland, held a meeting on 23 March 2005.

The Council meeting was chaired by Mr. Jerzy Pruski, Chairman of the Council, First Deputy President of the National Bank of Poland.

The Payment System Council:
  1. Acknowledged the information of the National Bank of Poland on the launch of the SORBNET-EURO system and Poland's participation in the TARGET system,


  2. Acknowledged the information of the National Clearing House SA on the launch of the EuroELIXIR system,


  3. Acknowledged the information of the National Bank of Poland on the objectives of TARGET2 and prospects for Poland's participation in the system,


  4. Issued a positive opinion on the evaluation of the Polish payment system in the second half of 2004, which was prepared by the Payment Systems Department of the NBP.

The Council emphasized that the launch of the SORBNET-EURO and EuroELIXIR systems provides the customers of Polish banks with better conditions to execute faster, cheaper and safer transfer of funds in euro.

The Council also accepted two documents: Report on the Activity of the Payment System Council in 2004 and the Annual Work Plan of the Payment System Council in 2005.

The Council has decided that its next meeting will be held in June 2005.
