Member of the Management Board of the NBP
She graduated from the Warsaw School of Economics in 1993.
In 1995 she completed a Study Course in Economic Policy and Study Course in Economic Policy for Central and Eastern European Countries in Japan. In 1996 she graduated from the Postgraduate Study of Administration at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw. In 1997 she received her Ph. D. in Economic Sciences and then a post-doctoral degree in Economics (finance and banking) in 2000. In 2004 she was granted the title of Professor in Economic Sciences. In 2006 she was promoted to the position of Full Professor of the Warsaw School of Economics.
Małgorzata Zaleska has authored over 320 scholarly and popular science publications, primarily on the financial markets safety net, on the organisation and regulation of banking market supervision, on the deposit guarantee system, as well as on the identification of the bankruptcy risk of banks.
In 1998-2003 Małgorzata Zaleska served as an advisor to the Bank Guarantee Fund; in 2000-2002 she was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, in 2005-2006 she was an expert of the Minister of Education and Sport for the development of the standard university curriculum in banking and finance; in 2007 she was a member of the Commission for Banking Supervision. Between 20 April 2007 and 31 July 2009 she held the position of President of the Management Board of the Bank Guarantee Fund.
In 2008-2009 Małgorzata Zaleska was a member of the Executive Council of the International Association of Deposit Insurers, as well as the Chairperson of the Research Group of the European Forum of Deposit Insurers. In 2012, Małgorzata Zaleska was elected to the Central Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles within the scope of economics (finances). Since 2007 she has sat on the Presidium and since 2011 has been Vice-President of the Committee on Financial Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences and since 2008 has held the position of editor-in-chief of “Finanse”, the journal published by the Committee. Since 2004 she has been a member of the Polish Association of Finance and Banking. From 2002 she headed the Section of Institutional Regulation and Banking Analysis at the Chair in Banking of the Warsaw School of Economics, and from 2000 she headed the Postgraduate Study for Banking Analysts. Since 2013, Małgorzata Zaleska has been with the Institute of Banking and Business Insurance of the School, acting as Head of the Department of Banking and the Security of the Financial System.
On 3 August 2009 Małgorzata Zaleska was appointed Member of the NBP Management Board by Lech Kaczyński, the President of the Republic of Poland, at the request of NBP President Sławomir Skrzypek.
