William W. Lewis Lecture at the NBP
The power of productivity. Wealth, poverty and the threat to global stability

The National Bank of Poland has the great pleasure of inviting journalists to attend the lecture by William W. Lewis presenting the main thesis of his latest book "The power of productivity. Wealth, poverty and the threat to global stability".

The book attempts to answer the question as to what are the factors that differentiate the rates of economic growth in individual countries. William Lewis has written this book after years of research and observations of thirteen national economies including those of the USA, Russia, India, Brazil and Poland. Specialists have acknowledged his book as one of the best works describing the methods of bridging the gap between poor and rich nations.

The lecture will be delivered on Wednesday, 2 June 2004 at 3 p.m. at the Head Office of the NBP (ul. Świętokrzyska 11/21, Władysław Grabski Hall) and will be presented as a multimedia event.

William Lewis was for 20 years a partner at the consulting firm of McKinsey. Between 1990 and 2001 he was director of the research institute McKinsey Global Institute. He has also worked within the American government administration and for the World Bank.

Journalists interested in obtaining any additional information are invited to telephone the NBP Press Office at the following numbers: 653 25 27, 653 13 99, 653 28 97
