Date: 15-06-2012

NBP data: Preliminary data show that in April 2012 Polish exports grew by 0.9 per cent, as compared with April 2011, while imports were lower by 3.9. The overall balance of the current and capital accounts remained positive.

According to the preliminary information on the balance of payments, published by the NBP on 15 June, in April 2012, Polish exports amounted to approx. EUR 11.6 billion and were 0.9% higher than a year before. Imports stood at EUR 12.0 billion, having decreased by 3.9%, which substantially reduced the still negative balance of trade in goods.

The negative income balance was slightly lower than a year before. As in almost every month, a surplus was recorded on the service account (EUR 0.5 billion) and on the current transfer account (over EUR 0.5 million), with the positive transfer balance with EU exceeding EUR 1.4 billion. As a result, current account deficit totalled EUR 0,6 billion, i.e. almost half the amount reported a year before.

The total balance of the current and capital accounts was positive again and reached ca. EUR 0.5 billion.
