Money supply in April 2016

NBP data: In April 2016, the M3 money supply rose by PLN 15.1bn. The M3 elements primarily responsible for this monthly growth were corporate and household deposits.
According to preliminary data released by NBP on 13 May 2016, in April 2016 this growth was exceptionally high, as compared to the corresponding month in the years 2011-2015. At the end of the month, the M3 aggregate, which reflects the total money supply, amounted to PLN 1,177.7bn. This represented an increase of PLN 15.1bn (i.e. 1.3%) on the end-of-March figure.
In April 2016, the highest rise was observed in corporate deposits – an increase of PLN 6.5bn (i.e. 2.8%) to the level of PLN 237.0bn. The value of household deposits increased by PLN 3.5bn (i.e. 0.5%) to the level of PLN 665.6bn.
The rise in the M3 money stock in April 2016 was driven by an increase in claims on households of PLN 9.0bn (i.e. 1.4%) to PLN 645.3bn and an increase in the corporate debt of PLN 5.6bn (i.e. 1.7%) to the level of PLN 336.2bn. On the other hand, the net debt of central government institutions in the banking sector decreased by PLN 10.7bn (i.e. 4.7%) to the level of PLN 215.6bn. appreciation of the zloty against major foreign currencies.
