Narodowy Bank Polski has put into circulation a new 500 złoty banknote
The banknote with the image of King John III Sobieski ensures the uninterrupted circulation of cash and a reduction in the cost of issuing currency; the 500 złoty banknote has some of the most advanced security features in the world.
Narodowy Bank Polski announced it had put into circulation a new 500 złoty denomination banknote, which will ensure the uninterrupted circulation of cash and a reduction in the cost of issuing currency, and will also satisfy the growing demand for high denomination banknotes. The new 500 złoty banknote is the fulfilment of the mission of the Polish central bank stipulated in the Act on NBP to organise the management of Polish banknotes and coins. The share of 500 złoty banknotes in cash circulation will be small in the first years and will ultimately depend on banks’ requests to NBP.
The 500 złoty banknote has some of the most advanced security features in the world. The security features include a windowed security thread, colour-shifting ink and iridescent ink as well as a recto verso element (the graphical elements on both sides of the banknote align in transmitted light), a lobster-tailed pot helmet and windowed security thread (which change colour when tilted), and a watermark visible against the light (presenting a portrait of the king and the value numeral).
The 500 złoty banknote, designed by Andrzej Heidrich, presents an image of King John III Sobieski and is a continuation of the series “Rulers of Poland”. The colour scheme of the banknote is blue, brown, burgundy and green. On the front side of the banknote the king is facing the Sobieski family coat-of-arms, and to the right is a lobster-tailed pot helmet – a symbol of his military achievements. On the reverse side of the banknote there is an eagle in a crown and the palace in Wilanów.
