About the NBP: Structure
Legal Department

The responsibilities of the Legal Department involve providing legislative and legal support to the President of the NBP, the Monetary Policy Council, the NBP Management Board, the Bank's Head Office and also overseeing the legal support provided within other organisational units.
The particular responsibilities of the Legal Department include:
- drafting legislation concerning the operations of the NBP and the banking system,
- providing consultative opinions on the draft versions of legal regulations submitted to the Bank for sanction by other central institutions of the government and civil service,
- reviewing legal regulations concerning the operations of the NBP and the banking system for compliance with existing statute law, and proposing amendments to such regulations as appropriate,
- maintaining the records and archives of the Bank's regulations,
- providing advice, legal opinions and clarification on the application of law to the President of the NBP, the Monetary Policy Council, the NBP Management Board and Head Office departments,
- ensuring legal representation and advocacy for the Bank in respect of bodies examining cases involving the rights and duties of the NBP,
- providing legal support in negotiations conducted by the NBP,
- providing legal support to the Bank in its international relations,
- overseeing the legal support provided within the Bank's organisational units, and collaboration with these units in handling cases of precedence or particular complexity, and also cases heard by the Central Administrative Court and the Supreme Court,
- conducting studies of foreign regulations in the field of banking law and banking products,
- providing both general and specific information within the NBP on the laws of other countries in relation to banking activity,
- informing the management of the NBP and particular Head Office departments of alterations to legislation affecting the operations of the NBP,
- editing the Official Journal of the NBP,
- carrying out administrative tasks related to the Official Journal of the NBP.
